Q: Why is a Sidewalker superior to a bike?
A: Sidewalker scooters offer more exercise benefits and a more enjoyable riding experience than a traditional bicycle. Kicking a scooter works all of the major muscles in your legs and engages more of the body than sitting and pedaling. You will expend more energy and therefore burn more calories when riding a scooter than a bike.
Riders also enjoy a greater sense of freedom on a scooter or kick bike because you are standing and not stuck in a seated position. Each rider develops their own rhythm with the scooter and their own style of kicking. It only takes a few minutes to get used to the motion and once you’ve built up momentum, you’ll experience the thrill of gliding through the streets while standing tall.

Q: Is the riding position of the Sidewalker different from other scooters?
A: Many other scooters do not offer a full-height position because they are used for racing the rider is meant to keep a lower center of gravity. With Sidewalker scooters, riders can stand in a fully upright and natural position, giving a superior range of vision for the rider as well as making riders more visible to drivers and others who share the roads.

Q: How does the platform height affect the performance of the scooter?
A: Most scooters have a platform clearance of 3 – 4” off the ground, while the Sidewalker models offer a 5.5” height. A higher clearance off the road means that the rider will not have as many problems navigating curbs, potholes, uneven pavement, stones and other impediments many face on the roads. The lower ground clearance offered by other scooters means that ride is less smooth and may be interrupted or that the scooter may be scratched or damaged.
Rider safety is of the utmost importance for Sidewalker scooters and our 3.5” ground clearance offers better stability for the rider. The increased height also offers more exercise benefits as the stationary leg is required to squat just a little bit more than on other scooters while still maintaining rider comfort.
Many scooter riders have switched to Sidewalker scooters after becoming frustrated with the lower ground clearance offered by other scooter brands. With a Sidewalker scooter you can relax into the comfort of gliding along the landscape instead of focusing so much on the road ahead while scanning for little obstacles that might hinder the scooter.

Q: How sturdy are Sidewalker scooters?
A: Sidewalker scooters are made from Chromoly steel, which is one of the strongest materials used to manufacture both bikes and scooters. Many other scooters are made from regular steel, which does not provide the same stability for heavier riders.
The tires are pneumatic and filled with air which provides a very smooth ride and there are two v-brakes, one on the front wheel and one on the back, which makes the scooters very responsive to the needs of the rider and adds greater security.
Sidewalker scooters were designed with the comfort and safety of the rider in mind and come with a two-year warranty.

Q: How do I stand properly on the platform?
A: Place your standing foot off-center on the platform so that when it is time to glide rather than kick, you can place the other foot directly beside the stationary foot. Make sure you are facing forward and gliding with your feet side-by-side. This way it is easy to switch the kicking foot as you go along.

Q: What is the proper way to kick?
A: Begin by lifting your kicking foot forward, in front of you. Then swing your foot back, pushing the ground as you swing through. The higher you lift your foot forward, the more momentum you will be able to gain. Repeat the kicking several times to increase your speed, then join your feet together on the platform, relax and enjoy gliding. When you begin to slow down, begin kicking or pushing off the ground again with either leg. Choose whichever leg is most comfortable or switch legs when one becomes tired and to get a symmetrical workout.
